Dan Keller is one of Asheville's top jazz guitarists.
He began studying composition, theory and guitar in 1995 with instructor Joe Marquand (www.joemarquand.com). Dan performed and studied bass and saxophone in Concert, Pep, and Marching Band at Leland and Grey High School in Townshend, VT. His education continued in Brevard, NC, where he studied and performed with renowned guitarist Marc Yaxley privately, and later at the University of North Carolina at Asheville (UNCA).
Dan credit's the most beneficial aspect of his education to be the countless “on the job” experiences gained while working initially with Yaxley and later with Martin Houghtaling (Hendersonville and Spartanburg symphonies), Bill Berg (performed on the Bob Dylan album “Blood on the Tracks”), Jeremy Corn (former keyboardist for Ross Allen and the Lions, pioneers of Reggaebilly), Charlotte's Jazz legend Bill Hanna, Bradford Gee (Church Organist and Choir Director at St. James Episcopal in Hendersonville, NC), and many others.
Past performances range from the Grove Park Inn (Asheville, NC), to the Flat Rock Music Festival (Flat Rock, NC), the White Horse w/ the Charles Unger Experience (Black Mountain, NC), Blues Boulevard Jazz (Spartanburg, SC), and Ellington’s Jazz (Fort Myer’s, FL). Dan performs weekly at Cedric's on the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. Dan also teaches jazz guitar here in Asheville.
